In November 2006, the Government announced the details of the annual increase in the limits on certain employment tribunal awards. As of 1 February 2007 those limits will be in force and are as follows:
- Maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal - £60,600 (previously £58,400)
- Maximum statutory redundancy payment - £9,300 (previously £8,700)
- Maximum award for failure to give statement of employment particulars £1,240 (previously £1,160)
These new limits will apply where the “appropriate date” falls on or after the 1 February 2007. The appropriate date will be determined according to the type of claim brought (in unfair dismissal claims it will be the effective date of termination).
The Government has also just published the draft order setting out the new rates of statutory benefits that are to apply from 1 April 2007. These are as follows:
- Standard rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay - £112.75 per week (currently £108.85 per week)
- Standard rate of statutory sick pay - £72.25 per week (currently £70.05 per week)
