Catherine is a litigator who focuses on disputes in the media sector and also has an acknowledged expertise in defamation and privacy. Her commercial disputes experience has encompassed complex corporate contractual matters, management disputes, Intellectual Property ownership & piracy, challenges to registered trade marks, ownership of character and programming clip rights, performance rights disagreements, breaches of fiduciary duty and professional negligence. She has been involved in a significant number of high profile cases in the Music industry, and has acted for many musicians and independent record and publishing labels but also acts for clients in many other sectors of the media.
In her defamation and privacy practice Catherine acts for a significant number of high-profile individual and corporate clients from the media and other sectors in both Claimant and Defendant work. As well as resolving disputes by way of negotiation or litigation Catherine also provides general media management advice.
Catherine has a special expertise in Court of Protection matters. She is an appointed Receiver and has significant expertise in the practice and procedures of the Court. She is frequently asked to comment on issues relating to the Court of Protection and the Mental Capacity Act.
She is an associate of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys; a member of the Media Society, and of Women in Film and Television; a member of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers; and was on the development committee at the Soho Theatre
