Peter Cooke is an employment lawyer and consultant to the firm.

His broad-ranging experience includes:

• Employment and share scheme advice on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings throughout Europe;
• Advice to employers about collective relations with trade unions;
• Advising trade associations and lobbying government about changes to employment law;
• Advising employers on major redundancies;
• Discrimination law;
• Partnership and boardroom disputes;
• Restrictive covenants, confidential information and intellectual property;
• Immigration.

In the last four years, Peter’s work has included the following:

• Restructuring of a merged pharmaceutical company involving the tenth largest global redundancy programme;
• Advice on the negotiation of a European Works Council agreement;
• European redundancy advice to a Hong Kong conglomerate operating in the automobile industry;
• Scottish litigation for a Canadian oil services company about the application of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations to a US and Canadian transaction;
• Injunction and delivery up proceedings against the IT director of the UK subsidiary of a quoted US company;
• Employment advice to a major software trade association operating in Europe and the US;
• Advice to the principal of  a film production and distribution company in relation to a solvent liquidation and litigation against another principal of the company;
• Defence of injunction proceedings brought against the finance director of a financial services company and successful wrongful and unfair dismissal proceedings against the same company.
• Advice to two US law firms about disability discrimination claims.

Peter is also a regular speaker for conference producer Business Forums International, and writes on employment law topics.  His publications include Croner’s looseleaf “Employment Law”; the chapter on directors in “Tolley’s Employment Law”, and (with Felicity Gemson) “Negotiating Employment Agreements” published by Sweet and Maxwell.

Peter ran his previous firm’s London pro bono practice, and was for four years the managing partner of Theodore Goddard, then a mid-sized City law firm.
