Philip is a partner in our employment group and is an expert in contentious and non-contentious employment law. He acts for a range of clients in various sectors including financial services, healthcare, media, real estate, construction and private equity. Philip advises on day to day employment issues but also counsels clients on some of their most sensitive matters.
He has handled a number of complex and high value matters in the UK employment tribunal and in the High Court in London. Cases include a leading case on the information and consultation obligations under TUPE; the defence, for a leading investment bank, of claims brought against it by employees for whistleblowing, discrimination and unfair dismissal; the defence of breach of contract claims in relation to bonus and enhanced redundancy; negligence in relation to the giving of a reference; bringing and defending proceedings for injunctive relief against a team moving to a competitor regarding confidential information and the enforcement of restrictive covenants. Philip’s non-contentious experience includes drafting employment contracts and service agreements, staff handbooks and policies, advising on terminations, severance agreements and senior terminations, bonus and bonus deferral arrangements, disciplinary and dismissal issues, TUPE and redundancy issues, the employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, sales and insolvencies and confidentiality, restrictive covenants and garden leave.
Philip has advised employers with high levels of trade union representation, including on industrial actions matters. Philip provides commercial advice and understands the role of external lawyer from the other side having undertaken two client secondments, one of which was with a leading investment bank and the other with one of the largest employers in the UK. |
