Robert is a partner in the firm's Commercial Group.  He specialises in the music industry and has many years' experience in advising artists, publishers, record companies, banks and entrepreneurs on a range of issues and, in particular, the acquisition of rights catalogues and music publishing and recorded music companies, as well as the funding of such transactions.

Robert's clients have included EMI, who he has represented on a number of transactions including the acquisition of Chrysalis Records, Filmtrax,  Virgin Records and Virgin Music Publishing, and Intercord as well as in connection with EMI's proposed, but ultimately abortive, merger with Warner Music Group. He also represented EMI in respect of many complex corporate issues following Terra Firma's acquisition of EMI.

Other major transactions on which he has advised include:

• the sale of Windswept Pacific's back catalogue to EMI Music;
  
  
• the acquisition by Windswept Holdings of the Trio Music and Quartet Music from Messrs Leiber and Stoller;
  
  
• the sale of Ryko Music to Evergreen;
  
  
• the acquisition of the Right Said Fred catalogue for Babcock & Brown IP Management Pty Limited; and
  
  
• the sale of Windswept Holdings to Bug Music.
