Tom specialises in dispute resolution, with a focus on the media and entertainment industries. He has particular expertise in copyright and performers’ rights, trade marks and false endorsement, defamation and privacy, and advertising laws. Tom joined Michael Simkins LLP in August 2011 having spent over seven years in the City at Eversheds LLP.
Tom’s entertainment-industry litigation experience includes music, film, television and computer games. He has advised many leading rights-holders and entertainers, including Experience Hendrix, The Beatles, the Bob Marley estate, Sir Elton John, U2, PRS for Music, Paramount Pictures and Michael Flatley.
Tom also advises clients on reputation management, including acting for claimants and defendants in defamation proceedings, obtaining privacy injunctions for individuals against the media, and advising businesses on advertising disputes, such as defending Advertising Standards Authority complaints.
Tom is ranked in Chambers and Partners as an “Associate to watch” where he is described as “a very professional and personable practitioner who is a name to watch for the future” (Chambers 2012) and it is noted that he “impresses clients with his efficiency and dedication” (Chambers 2011).
